Soy
racista. Ya lo he dicho más de una vez a lo largo de este blog.
Definitivamente, soy racista. Lo soy. Positivamente racista.

Chronicling
Moraira’s 8th Youth Servas international meeting, September 1st,
2013
I'm
racist. I've said more than once over this blog. I'm definitely racist. Positively
racist. Because I love races, I worship diversity and mixtures (I´m devoted to
Dionysus rather than to Apollo), because I become fascinated by the colors of
the people, as well as by their languages and
accents, because I get exalted on meeting them. And because I would embrace
all of them at the same time, if I could.
So
you can imagine how I've felt between 147 different kinds of people coming from
around the world in Moraira (Alicante, Spain), where the 8th international
Servas youth meeting was held. Should you ask me what on the world I, aged 75, was doing among them, I would answer
you: just rejuvenating myself. Any other question?
Servas is an NGO (*) founded in Denmark in 1949 by Bob Luitweiler. It enjoys
consultative status within the UN, and began as a contact point among peaceful
and hospitable people who argued for peace through physical meeting. Servas
International works to promote world peace, understanding, tolerance. Its
members, when traveling abroad, do not stay in hotels but are received by other
Servas partners with whom they share ceiling, table, conversation, feelings
and culture. Embodying nearly 15,000 hosts in more than 100 countries, Servas,
however, is not an alternative to hotel accommodation, but its main objective is
to promote understanding among people around the world, facilitating a personal
and family contact among its members.
The
coordinator in Spain is Susana Martinez who lives in Valencia and has ben in
charge of organizing this Servas Youth international meeting, which is a
section of Servas NGO that was formed in Barcelona in 2004. Servas Youth includes
the young members and has already
held 8 international meetings (+). The last one has been this one in Moraira
(Alicante ), where I enjoyed the charm of the group , their joy , their
solidarity , their ability to have fun and entertain to each other , their
languages, their races, their personality. Where I met the Russian Cristina,
the Italian Ana Cristina, Myriam of the Reunion Island, the Ukranian Eugene
Gvozdetski, the Polish Ewa Dzierzawska, the Israeli Reut Harel, who appeared
to me as a cheerful engine of this generational movement.
Will
add a couple of more things about Servas. One is, as in all modern events of
interest, the predominant role of women. Two, that in these groups claiming
for free shared solidarity, it is hard to find someone vulgar or mediocre.
Everyone hides something relevant .
Let
me tell you more of the encounter of Moraira. In an evening show that made us LOL (loudly laugh), a dozen of
boys performed as girls, and viceversa, God bless diversity! Choirs, songs,
puppets, magic..., while “Groucho Marx” was taking pictures of everything. Now,
can you imagine hearing a Russian girl singing a Russian song in her own
Russian language? Sorry for you if you did´nt. Myriam in half an hour gave us a
complete lecture, joking and playing! on the island of Reunion. The Polish Ewa and the Italian Anna Cristina strive (and succeed!) in binding members from Eastern Europe, from Georgia
to Belarus, through Ukraine and Romania. Eugene Kiev, Physics student aged
21, told me that, in the event of a possible association with the European Union, he would be more interested in the
very process than in the possible benefits... , and he says it just like that,
in the most natural way.
-
Alejandrooo ! Alejandrooo ... ! If you see him, take him back!, he was asked to dance and escaped away…!
